Summer Chic

So, it’s pretty much summer here in Louisiana, even though it’s not even May yet. Once the days start hitting 80 degrees Farenheit, I break out what I call my summer “uniform”.

I have one for pretty much every season – cozy sweaters and skinny jeans with boots in the winter, cardigans and longer skirts with tights in the spring and autumn, and then pretty, loose shirts and short skirts in the summer.

I live in skirts in the summer – they’re so much more comfortable than jeans! A lot of girls I know seem to think that skirts are uncomfortable, but I beg to differ! What most girls don’t realize about skirts is that not only are they prettier and more feminine than jeans, but they’re actually more comfortable, too. They’re not restricting, and if you live in a hot climate, they actually help cool you by creating movement around your legs (and by not covering them up).  The only downside to a skirt is that you need to make sure that you shave your legs on a regular basis, but I feel like that’s a small price to pay for something so comfortable.

A lot of girls also tend to fall into ruts in the summer. That’s okay, but your rut should be more fun and attractive than a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Try doing something more special, like this (and heels are totally optional – I’ve done this outfit with a pair of flat sandals too).

Pick a shirt that’s loose and made of a soft fabric, but that still has some detailing. Cotton skirts are great too, like this one that I found at American Eagle.

Something like this is just as easy to do as shorts and a t-shirt, so no one has any excuse! Enjoy the rest of the pics, which were taken by my wonderful cousin Crystal. With any luck, she’ll continue to find time to help me out.

  2. Oh, and I must say...if you want comfort, you cant go wrong with a cool, cotton skirt. People think I am crazy, but I can't see how it's NOT comfortable! Jeans have their place, but the only time one can wear a breezy skirt is when it's warm...enjoy it!
